Professor, Industrial & Systems Engineering

Research focus

Machine learning, digital twin, smart manufacturing, AI-driven scientific discovery, autonomous experimentation, materials/biomedical imaging

Education

Ph.D. Industrial & Systems Engineering, Texas A&M University, 2011
B.S. Industrial Engineering, Seoul National University, 2001

Chiwoo Park will join Industrial & Systems Engineering in January from Florida State University where he is a professor of industry and manufacturing engineering focused on machine learning.

In his research, Park engages with machine learning and its applications in smart manufacturing and physical science. He uses surrogate modeling and experimental design to create digital twins for cyber-physical systems and develop autonomous systems for AI-driven scientific discovery platforms. He also explores the problem of understanding processing-structure-property in materials imaging through modeling and analysis of object data. In 2021, he authored Data Science for Nano Image Analysis, which summarizes much of his research in these areas. He has received a number of honors and awards, including the Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Award, Brainpool Fellowship, and IIE Best Paper Award.
